RGCIRC Champions Collaborative Efforts to Broaden Cancer Care Accessibility and Bridge the Care Gap

Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) is taking significant strides in expanding its philanthropic reach to support underprivileged cancer patients. At a conference held at its Rohini Centre, RGCIRC unveiled a comprehensive plan to foster partnerships aimed at making quality cancer care more accessible and affordable.

Mr. Rakesh Chopra, Chairman of RGCIRC, highlighting the hospital’s genesis as a testament to philanthropic endeavours, said, “Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) stands as a prime example of a hospital born out of philanthropy. With an initial contribution of just Rs 49 lakh, the hospital has achieved significant milestones since its incorporation.

We have a corpus of Rs 100 crore and our goal is to expand this corpus to Rs 300 crore within the next three years. The interest accrued will be utilized to support economically disadvantaged patients.”
Speaking at the conference, Mr. DS Negi, CEO of RGCIRC, emphasized the unique ethos of the hospital, stating, “The very seeds of our hospital is sown in philanthropy.

We are a hospital with a difference as we ensure equitable treatment for all patients. We have spent around Rs 44 crore from our funds for the treatment of underprivileged individuals. Every contribution and support we receive is channelled towards aiding the underprivileged, and it remains our key motto.”

Dr. Sudhir Rawal, MD, of RGCIRC, discussed the groundbreaking advancements in cancer treatment at RGCIRC. “RGCIRC is the first in the country to introduce cutting-edge technologies like the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), robotic surgery, cyber knife and others. We are actively working towards the development of indigenous Car T cell therapy soon, and through these advancements, we continue to provide world-class oncology care.” said Dr Rawal.

Highlighting RGCIRC’s journey in philanthropy, a booklet titled “A Sun Rises in Cancer” was released, offering inspiration and insight into the institute’s charitable endeavours.

Under the banner of enhancing care and facilitating early detection and treatment, the conference brought together a consortium of medical experts, industry leaders, and corporate stakeholders.

This gathering underscored the critical importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in advancing cancer care, particularly for those in dire financial need. Since its foundation, RGCIRC has been at the forefront of philanthropic activities, continuously innovating in cancer care to make a positive impact on countless lives.

The conference highlighted the pivotal role of early detection and treatment in managing cancer effectively, thus lowering treatment costs and empowering patients.

The event was graced by distinguished guests such as Dr Sayed Humayun Jafri, Ex-head of CSR, PR & International Patient Advisor-Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai and other dignitaries including Mr Vivek Awasthi, GM (CSR) of Engineers India Limited (EIL), Mr Akhil Gupta, Deputy General Manager, (Admin),

Human Resources Services, NR– Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and representatives from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). These leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting RGCIRC’s mission, emphasizing the collective responsibility to ensure equitable access to quality cancer care.

Established in 2019, the Department of Philanthropic Services has played a vital role in coordinating patient welfare programs, working independently and alongside other institutions and NGOs. RGCIRC’s initiatives extend beyond Delhi, benefiting patients from neighbouring states and supporting international patients through crowdfunding for treatment.

Organizations like Shree Ram Krishna Sewa Sansthan, Relaxo India Ltd (Mool Chand Dua Memorial Society), Yuvraj Singh Foundation, and the India Cancer Society, among others, stand with RGCIRC in its mission to support the treatment of needy patients.
